Who are you and what do you do?
I’m Cindy Masloski, the artist behind Agate & Fiber in White Bear Lake, Minnesota. I create one-of-a-kind baskets, bowls, handbags, and home accessories using cotton rope, colorful batik fabrics, and natural materials. Every piece includes a genuine Lake Superior agate, combining artistic design with everyday function.
Where did your business name come from?
Agate & Fiber represents the two elements at the heart of my work: cotton rope and batik fabric, paired with genuine Lake Superior agates. The name reflects my love of natural materials and my Minnesota roots.
What has been your favorite moment since creating your art/business?
I’ve had several special moments, including being featured in the White Bear Press and having my antler basket selected for an exhibition at the White Bear Lake Center for the Arts. But what I enjoy most is hearing customers say they’ve never seen anything quite like my work. I especially love hearing comments like, “It’s so artistic and beautiful, yet something I can actually use every day!”

What motivates you to create?
I love transforming simple materials into something beautiful and unexpected. Experimenting with new designs keeps the creative process exciting, and seeing how people connect with my work makes it even more rewarding. I’m now looking forward to sharing that creativity through DIY kits and teaching.
What are some inspirations for your work?
I’m inspired by Minnesota’s natural beauty, especially Lake Superior’s shoreline, woodland textures, and changing seasons. Sometimes a beautiful batik fabric, an interesting agate, or a piece of driftwood sparks an entirely new design.
What sets your designs apart from others?
I combine traditional coiled-rope techniques with sculptural shapes, colorful fabrics, and natural embellishments. Every piece is individually handcrafted and includes a genuine Lake Superior agate. I especially love that my creations can be displayed as art while also being useful in everyday life.

What is the latest thing you have been working on?
I’ve been creating larger rope clutches and sculptural baskets inspired by Lake Superior’s shoreline. I’m also developing a DIY Mini Treasure Bowl Kit so others can experience the fun of creating their own fiber-art basket. It’s an exciting first step toward offering kits and teaching opportunities.
What will you be bringing to the Gift & Art Expo for attendees to purchase?
I’ll be bringing handcrafted rope baskets, bowls, handbags and clutches, coasters, trivets, and smaller seasonal treasures—unique gifts at a variety of price points. I’m especially excited to introduce my new Mini Treasure Bowl DIY Kits and demonstrate how to create one during my stage presentation!
