Featured Exhibitor: Gayle Hallin Designs

Scarves aren't just for braving the harsh Minnesota winters! Gayle Hallin creates delicate scarves using a technique called "nuno-felting," and her work brings wearable art to another level. From her successful career in health care to her work with fiber, Gayle is motivated by her desire to bring value to others. We are mezmorized by these unique, stained glass scarves!

Who are you and what do you do?

I am Gayle Hallin an artist who produces nuno-felted scarves in varied fibers, designs, colors and sizes for wearable art.

What motivates you to create?

I am inspired to play with fibers to create interesting works that bring joy to others.

Have you always been passionate about art and design?

From my childhood, I have been passionate about art and design. I have explored and created beautiful things from in a myriad of mediums including glass, weavings, oil painting, printmaking, photography, quilting and textiles.

How did you get started in your business?

After concluding a career in public health and nursing, I wanted to become part of the arts world. I took up painting, continued exploring photography and was introduced to nuno-felting by a friend. My website includes my painting and photography along with my textiles which evolved into a business thanks to friends who loved my nuno-felted scarves and hosted trunk shows.  It launched me into becoming part of juried events around the country which we combine with our travel interests.

What do your customers love most about your product(s)?

Customers enjoy the light weight, sculpted, stained glass effect of my scarves along with their unique personalities.  They love the button-flowers that I make along with the scarves that can be used as functional embellishments. The gift bags I provide that include a card on the process of making their scarf and how to care for them enhance their gift value

What do you love most about craft show vending?

What I love most about being part of art fairs and craft shows is the interaction with people who enjoy learning about the process of nuno-felting and finding scarves that match individual color preferences and personalities for themselves and for gifts.

I bout a beautiful scarf from you yesterday in St Paul. I’m sorry I did not buy my daughter one. It’s pale to darker salmon and blue. Outstanding with denim. I bought a large one and want a medium too. Can you tell me if you have one with you. Thank you. Thanks
